Terracotta - Torquemada-Stencilled with Fleur de lys
These tiles are produced by one of the traditional tile makers of Spain, the only company left in Europe fully maintaining the tile making techniques introduced to Spain by the Moors.
The colour and patina of Torquemada is achieved by the firing process using three different types of wood, each emitting a different amount of flame and smoke. No gas fired tile, however handmade, can begin to achieve these tones and textures, let alone any machine made product.
